A Bike Can Transform Our Community

Please support Bike Bakersfield's Giving Tuesday goal of refurbishing and tuning-up bikes for 100 Kern County residents in need! $50 per bike ensures each bike has updated components and gear, along with the tools and hands-on lessons from our staff and mechanics. Can you help us by donating $10 this Giving Tuesday?

Everyone remembers the freedom they felt the first time they successfully rode a bike. Whether that was around the neighborhood, at the skate park, or the first time out on a mountain bike trail, cyclists of all ages know that simple feeling of wind at your face and the rumble of the ground beneath your tires.

Cycling is a life-long activity, and a simple bike can be a tool for health, happiness, and recreation. For decades, local cyclists have taken it further by commuting to and from work, job interviews, school, and errands. This is the mission of Bike Bakersfield: to promote cycling for everyday transportation.

Through Bike Bakersfield's volunteer Earn-A-Bike program, volunteers engage with the bike on a higher level, learning the mechanics and the social relief that cycling offers. It is a reliable, free, and self-powered form of transportation.

Give someone a car and they will drive until it needs gas or needs a repair. Give someone a bike and teach them how to maintain it, and you have inspired someone to pedal towards a healthier, happier life -- for the rest of their life!
